Who are Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion?

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are a select group of men and women chosen from the Catholic community who are active participants in the local parish.

What are the duties of the Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion?

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the priest at the Eucharistic ceremony (Mass) by helping to distribute communion to the assembly and by visiting and bringing communion to the sick and homebound who are unable to attend Mass.

Who can be a Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion?

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are selected by the Pastor after a careful screening by the Director of the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and the Church Council.

What kind of training is required?

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are given training by the Director of the Extraordinary Ministry of Holy Communion at the Parish level and are expected to attend workshops offered by the Diocese.

How often does an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion work?

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion can elect to minister at the Mass, to visit the sick and homebound or, to do both; but generally, would work one Sunday a month.

What if an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion is sick or on vacation?

They can trade with another Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion or the Director of the Extraordinary Ministry of Holy Communion will make arrangments for a substitute.
